Meet the family

Ruth, Simon and Noah Carter are a family of artists living and working in North East Essex. Their work has been exhibited nationally and internationally for many years, but in 2022 they exhibited together for the first time and after two successful pop up shops at Old Grocery, Wivenhoe they launched Carters Gallery online.

Ruth Carter’s work is inspired by the landscape and coast of North East Essex and is exhibited in shops and galleries across East Anglia.

Her jewellery features handmade glass and polymer clay beads. She makes watercolours and hand-painted silk scarves, often depicting native insects or flowers cut from the garden, and her papier-mâché sculptures are life-sized representations of British birds found in the garden or the local rivers and estuaries.
